COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man charged with a 2011 sexual assault in West Pullman was denied bond Tuesday.

Dwayne Towns, 51, is charged with sexual assault and kidnapping. Prosecutors allege that on Sept. 4, 2011, Towns sexually assaulted a 21-year-old woman near the Maxwell Street Express hot dog stand at 11656 S. Halsted St.

The woman was sleeping in the front seat of the car. The driver had gone to get food and had left the keys in the ignition.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Dibler, Towns got in the car and, with the victim still sleeping, drove to an empty lot near 12000 S. Peoria St., where he then forced the woman to perform oral sex. When Towns began searching the car for money, the woman fled with no shoes on and ran to a nearby stranger’s house for help.

Towns, of the 12200 block of South Morgan Street, was arrested after he was identified as the assailant through DNA and a physical lineup, police said in a statement.

Towns has previously been convicted of aggravated robbery and home invasion. He is scheduled to appear back in court Jan. 21.
