Wicker Area Weekend: Fountain Decorating, Sales, 100 Free ChillFest Shows

WICKER PARK —  It's another big weekend of events in the vicinity of Wicker Park and Bucktown.

Here are some highlights:

Friday

5 to 7 p.m.  Stephanie Izard's Holiday Rub Demo.  Girl and Goat chef Izard will introduce her new line of sauces and rubs called The Flavor and serve her own holiday-inspired creations paired with wines from Goddess and Grocer, at 1646 N. Damen Ave. in Wicker Park.

7 p.m. "Eat, Shop, Browse Opening Party."  A new purse and accessories shop celebrates its arrival with sales and small bites. Simona Calla, 2124 W. Division St. in Wicker Park.

7:30 p.m.  House Theatre's "The Nutcracker."  Enjoy a fresh take on a classic holiday story using puppets, songs and "spellbinding spectacle," according to organizers of the Jeff nominated production. Tickets range between 25-$45 and can be bought online.  Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St. in Wicker Park.

 All are welcome at a free Fountain Decorating Social from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the park, 1425 N. Damen Ave. Holiday lights will be turned on at 4 p.m.

7:30 p.m. The New Colony's "Kate and Sam are Not Breaking Up."   Explore our culture's obsession with celebrity, through the experiences of two actors whose impending break-up sparks a kidnapping. Tickets are $20 ($10 for students, seniors) and can be bought online. Collaboraction Theatre inside the Flat Iron Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park.

 

Saturday

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Indoor Family Fun Fest.    Take the family to a fundraiser benefiting community wellness and park programs. A $45 admission buys your young ones tickets for face painting, bouncy house entry, crafts and more. Mr. Dave, Jitterbugs and talent from Bubbles Academy are on tap too. 1425 N. Damen Ave. in the park field house.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  8th Annual Free Fountain Decorating Social.  Meet your neighbors while decorating a historic fountain and urns with greens, dried flowers, grasses and LED Lights. While coffee and water are provided, attendees are encouraged to bring finger food to share. The hard work will culminate with a fountain lighting at 4 p.m. The fountain, 1425 N. Damen Ave. in the park.

10 a.m to 6 p.m.  National Button Day Sale.  Hundreds of vintage and modern buttons in materials ranging from metal to bone, wood and even antler will be priced 20 percent off Saturday and Sunday at Soutache, 2130 N. Damen Ave. in Bucktown.

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Mod Furniture One Day Sale. Collector Tom Leahy hosts a pop up sale in a storefront across from the Polish Triangle. Tables, chairs carpet, art and vintage toys will be be priced for quick sale.  1184 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Wicker Park.

11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Chicago Neighborhood Schools Fair.  A parent-run fair will bring together 14 high schools, 44 elementary schools, and more than 20 community organizations from all over the city to provide information about neighborhood schools. Clemente High School, 1147 N. Western Ave. in West Town.

Noon to 6 p.m. ChillFest Acoustic Showcase.   Local musicians will turn over 25 neighborhood businesses into pop-up concert venues offering 100 acoustic "living room" sets. 4:30 to 11 p.m.  Winter Wonderland Supper Club.  An Italian restaurant that's received accolades for its holiday decorations will bedeck its dining room and exterior with snowflakes, holly, lights and holiday cheer.  Be among the first to enjoy the vibe at Club Lucky, 1824 W. Wabansia Ave. in Bucktown.

7:45 p.m. ChillFest After Party.   Mingle with music industry professionals and enjoy a concert by Jamie Lono, Moonrise Nation and more performers. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at door. Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. in Wicker Park.

 

Sunday

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.   Farmers Market in Logan Square.  Missing the outdoor Wicker Park Farmers Market and weekly Nosh Food Fest? Head seven blocks west to the old Pierre Bakery building and find both events going strong every Sunday at 2755 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Logan Square.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dose Market at Chop Shop's 1st Ward.    The theme of this Sunday's Dose Market is "Art Look," with several vendors such as Veruca Chocolates, Dark Matter Coffee and clothing designer vividbraille offering wares in the back room of the Chop Shop, 2033 W. North Ave. in Wicker Park.
