MAYFAIR — Ald. Margaret Laurino's 12th Annual Salute to American Heroes will acknowledge the 60th anniversary of the Korean Armistice during a ceremony scheduled for Sunday.

Korean War veteran Sgt. Leroy Budnik is among this year's honorees, recognized for demonstrating "ingenuity and leadership above both his rank and his training," according to a statement from the alderman's office.

The Salute to American Heroes was established to spotlight members of the Mayfair community whose service has made America better and safer.

The 2013 recipients include Sgt. Donald Daniels of the Albany Park Police District, previously honored during this year's 52nd Annual Police Recognition Ceremony for capturing a fleeing gunman.

The Chicago Fire Department Engine 79, Second Shift, is being recognized for going "beyond the call of duty to protect Mayfair residents on countless occasions."

Don Anderson, former principal of Palmer Elementary School, is the final honoree, cited for his "inspirational leadership."

The award ceremony, sponsored by Laurino and the Mayfair Veterans Committee, will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Mayfair Veterans Memorial at the corner of Lawrence and Keeler avenues.

A reception will follow the event at Ssyal Ginseng House, 4201 W. Lawrence Ave.
