CHICAGO — Two men were shot dead in a double homicide on the city's South Side Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The men were shot about 3:24 p.m. in the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue in Roseland, said Officer Michael Sullivan, police spokesman.

The men were identified as Martellis Griffis, 22, and William Aikens, 28, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office and family. Officials there said Griffis lived on the 10500 block of South Lafayette Avenue but said Aikens lived in the 1700 block of North Lotus Avenue.

Fire officials responded to the shooting, but the men were dead on the scene, a spokesman said.

Police called the shooting gang related.
