CHICAGO — A police chase of a stolen SUV ended with five people being sent to the hospital after a crash in Greater Grand Crossing.

Police were called to investigate reports of someone handing a gun to people in a Lexus SUV in the 1100 block of East 67th Street about 10:40 a.m. Monday, said Officer Daniel O'Brien, a police spokesman.

When cops arrived, the driver sped off in the SUV, which had previously been reported stolen.

After the officers were called off the pursuit, the SUV continued and eventually smashed into a Pontiac near the intersection of Marquette Road and King Drive, O'Brien said.

The three female occupants of the Pontiac were taken to Stroger Hospital and were expected to be released in good condition later Monday.

The driver was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center. His passenger was sent to Stroger. Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

After the incident, police made four arrests, including the two people in the SUV and two others, O'Brien said.
