NORTH CENTER — A 25-year-old man died after he was found stabbed at his North Center home early Tuesday. Police weren't sure where or by whom the man was attacked.

The man, who was later identified as Salomon Morales, was found bleeding on his porch in the 4200 block of North Damen Avenue about 4:10 a.m., said Officer John Mirabelli, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

Morales had been stabbed on the left side of his chest, side and stomach. He was disoriented and couldn't tell authorities what happened, police said.

He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center and pronounced dead at 6:41 a.m., according to Mirabelli.

On Tuesday afternoon, the young man's brother removed blood and debris from the front porch as relatives gathered to mourn.

Family members said they're still trying to piece together what happened and declined to say more until they find out what happened.

Police are seeking anyone who might have seen or heard something to help them track down leads, Mirabelli said.

A neighbor who declined to be identified said Tuesday night North Center was "normally a very safe area" before gang and drug activity started moving in in the last two years.

"We’ve seen graffiti. We've seen people beating up each other in the alley and jumping kids and driving off," the mother of two said. "It's just gotten out of hand. It's scary."
