CHICAGO — A teenager has been charged with the murder of a man killed earlier this week in Woodlawn, police said.
Marquis Ceazer, 18, has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Phillip "Gymshoe" Henderson, 27, authorities said.
Ceazer, of the 6200 block of South Eberhart Avenue, walked up to Henderson about 10 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of East 62nd Street, pulled out a gun and shot him in his upper chest, police said.
The victim, best known to residents as "Gymshoe," was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Residents said they heard a single shot fired before a car screeched off, and then heard more. They said Henderson attempted to run after the first shot but collapsed, then the shooter stood over him before firing more shots and fleeing the scene.
A 16-year-old was also charged in the murder, police said.
