NORTH PARK — Northside College Prep High School has narrowed its field of principal candidates to three finalists who will meet with members of the Northside community at a public forum Oct. 9.

Those vying for the school's top job, vacated by Barry Rodgers in June are: Laura LeMone, Kelly Mest and Brian Tennison.

LeMone is currently an assistant principal at Benito Juarez Community Academy, a neighborhood high school on the West Side where she also taught English for several years. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in history, English and education and is working toward a doctorate in education at the University of Illinois.

Mest is an assistant principal at Lindblom Math and Science Academy and like LeMone is a former English teacher. In 1999, she was a member of Northside's founding faculty and served as chairwoman of the high school's English department from 2001 to 2004.

Tennison has been an assistant principal at Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center since 2012, having spent the previous 18 years at Whitney Young Magnet High School. He has degrees in history and education and taught social studies at Whitney Young before becoming the high school's dean of students in 2010.

The public forum is set for 7-9 p.m., Oct. 9 in Northside's auditorium, 5501 N. Kedzie Ave.
