BRIDGEPORT — A local punk band plans to rock the faces off patrons at the Chicago Public Library’s Bridgeport branch.

“We’ll see if anybody complains,” branch manager Jeremy Kitchen said.

Fast Decay, a three-piece punk band based in Back of the Yards, will play a set as part of a unique event that will bring together live music and an exhibition of artwork at the library, 3400 S. Halsted St.

The free event, scheduled for 2:30-4:30 p.m. Oct. 12, will feature coffee and Bridgeport Bakery donuts served by Jackalope Coffee and Tea House.

Kitchen, who's managed the Richard J. Daley branch for the past year after running its kid's section for seven years, began organizing the event after an October 2012 punk show by The Spits, where he ran into a friend, the artist who goes by “Pajaro Muerto," who agreed to display paintings and a video installation at the library.

The band was an easy sell.

"They didn't even blink. They were like 'Yeah, let's do it,'" Kitchen said.

Kitchen said he’ll be posting signs in front of the library notifying unaware patrons of the performance, which will take place in the branch’s auditorium.
