ALBANY PARK — Burglars working in tandem have been targeting homes in Albany Park, Mayfair and North Park, posing as construction workers and looking for unoccupied houses.

The 17th Police District issued a burglary pattern alert, warning residents to be on the lookout for a pair of men going door to door in their neighborhoods.

According to the alert, one of the men waits in a vehicle while the other approaches a home — frequently wearing an orange construction vest — to determine whether it's occupied or not. If a homeowner responds to the knock or doorbell, the suspect gives an excuse — wrong address, etc. — and leaves.

The thieves are described at two black males, driving a silver or gray car. The license plate may be from out of state.

One of the burglars is approximately 30 years old, 6-foot 3-inches tall, 170 pounds and has short black hair.

Residents were urged to call 911 to report any suspicious people or activity in the area meeting this description.

Information about the burglars can be also be passed along to the 017th District CAPS Office at 312-742-4588 or email CAPS.017District@chicagopolice.org
