GRAND BOULEVARD — An Illinois Department of Corrections inmate is being charged in connection with a 2008 murder, police said.

Christopher West, 23, was charged with first degree murder, police said. The charges followed an investigation into the 2008 murder of Anthony Curtis.

Curtis, 26, was killed about 4:15 p.m. December 27, 2008, in the 4900 block of South Indiana Avenue, the Tribune reported at the time. Curtis died on the scene.

West is currently serving a three-year sentence for a 2011 conviction for illegally possessing a firearm, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

West, of the 4600 block of South Prairie Avenue, was transferred to the Cook County Jail Thursday and is due in bond court Saturday, police said.
