WASHINGTON PARK — Geanni Boyd was standing on the small front porch of his friend's apartment Wednesday night when shots rang out.

Police said a passing bicyclist opened fire about 7:45 p.m., hitting Boyd, 16, and a 15-year-old boy.

Boyd was shot repeatedly in his thigh and buttocks, police said. The teen was rushed to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:02 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Early Thursday morning, friends of Boyd hung out near the porch in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue where the victim was shot.

One man, who declined to be named, said he was the older brother of the 15-year-old also wounded in the shooting. Police said a bullet grazed that boy's wrist and he was treated on the scene.

The 15-year-old, who lives at the apartment where the two were shot, was recovering at home Thursday, his brother said.

"He's good," the man said. "He got skimmed."

The man said Boyd hung out at his home nearly everyday. Friends described the teen as a "good kid" and a "ladies man."

"I don't have nothing bad to say about him," one friend said. "He wasn't a gangbanger or nothing."

But police said Boyd and the 15-year-old wounded in Wednesday's shooting both had documented gang ties.

That is a claim Boyd's family also denied Thursday.

Family said Boyd, who had just transferred from Dunbar High School and was set to begin his sophomore year, was in "the wrong place at the wrong time."

"He didn't deserve this," his grandmother said as the family left Thursday morning for a funeral home. "He was a good kid."
