ROSCOE VILLAGE — The Cakegirls — sisters Brenda and Mary Maher — have been missing in action since a 2010 fire destroyed their popular Roscoe Village bakery.

The 2012 launch of thecakegirls.com, an online shop that specializes in baking supplies, scarcely slaked fans' thirst for the Mahers' brand of exquisite creations, as seen on WE TV's "Amazing Wedding Cakes" and the Food Network's "Last Cake Standing."

Now the siblings are back in the kitchen — teaching others the fine art of fondant rolling, gum paste modeling and stenciling.

The pair announced an upcoming hands-on two-day class, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Oct. 19-20, to be held at Give Me Some Sugar, 2205 W. Belmont Ave. At the end of the session, students will walk away with their very own non-edible "vintage shoe on a shoebox cake." (The decorations will be molded to styrofoam.)

The class costs $400, including supplies and a light lunch. Some previous experience handling fondant, an icing used in food sculpting, is helpful.
