WASHINGTON PARK — A teenage boy was killed and two men were injured in separate shootings overnight Monday on the city's South Side.

Police said the 17-year-old boy was killed in Washington Park in a drive-by shooting.

About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the teen was in the back seat of a vehicle driving down the 6200 block of South State Street when another vehicle pulled up alongside and someone inside opened fire, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The teen was shot twice in the head and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:58 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Morgue officials there identified the 17-year-old as Pierce Curry, of the 9900 block of South Hoxie Avenue.

No one else was injured in the shooting, and no one was in custody early Tuesday morning, police said.

Hours earlier, two men were wounded in a possible drive-by shooting in Englewood.

The men, ages 27 and 28, were standing outside in the 5500 block of South Shields Avenue about 9:50 p.m. when "shots were heard," Greer said. The two men were hit, and a dark-colored car was reported fleeing the scene.

The 27-year-old was shot in the knee and finger and was taken to Stroger Hospital where his condition stabilized, Greer said. A bullet grazed the 28-year-old man's stomach, and he drove himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting early Tuesday.
