CHICAGO — Police are investigating the death of a 32-year-old man who was found in the Chicago River in North Park early Friday.

The man was pulled from the water in the 3100 block of West Peterson Avenue about 12:25 a.m., said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

A police marine unit and fire department divers were on the scene early Friday. When divers pulled the man from the water, he was "unresponsive," Greer said.

The man, who was later identified as Jeffrey Goggins, was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:25 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No further details were immediately available.
