NORTH CENTER — Neighborly, recently named the best home boutique for locavores, is being overrun by house guests.
Owners Jenny Beorkrem and Mary Beth Kapp are totally cool with that.
On Aug. 3, Neighborly, 2003 W. Montrose Ave., which specializes in contemporary home goods crafted by independent, local artists, will host its second "House Guest" event. Painter and screen printer Ryan Kapp (totally related to Mary Beth — they're married) will take over pretty much every wall and display surface to showcase his work.
Kapp's "Four Seasons" print is already one of the most popular items at Neighborly. On Saturday, visitors to the shop will have the opportunity to view his entire collection of prints and paintings, which apply graphic arts techniques to Midwestern subjects.
As part of the event, customers will have the opportunity to create their own free screen print and, as an added bonus, Neighborly is promising to have a sno-cone food truck on hand.
A portion of the afternoon's proceeds will be donated to Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit organization that educates people about eating food that's good for the body and the planet.
The House Guest event runs 2-6 p.m. at Neighborly, 2003 W. Montrose Ave.
