COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Armando Orozco stood in court Wednesday with a scrapped up face and disheveled hair after allegedly trying to rob a cabbie in Albany Park.

Orozco, 38, and his alleged partner in crime, Luis Sosa, 21, hailed a cab near the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and Drake Street in Albany Park Tuesday night, prosecutors said during a bond hearing Wednesday.

Orozco allegedly played the lookout, and Sosa jumped into the back of the cab.

"(Sosa) said he was going to drive them to Grand and Milwaukee for $10," said Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti. "[The cabbie] said no."

That's when Sosa allegedly grabbed the taxi driver by his shirt and demanded his money and his cellphone, Antonietti said.

The cabbie, "fearing for his life," started to drive away, and Sosa jumped out of the cab, according to court records. Both men fled.

In describing his alleged assailants, the cabbie told police that they both had dark jeans, T-shirts and mohawks, and police soon found Orozco and Sosa.

Orozco, who is also charged with resisting arrest, suffered some abrasions to his face when police used an "emergency takedown" to stop him.
