CHICAGO — Suntanning, swimming and now Skyping.

Five of the city's beaches will now have free wireless Internet, a part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's broader push to get free wi-fi in the city's public areas, the city announced Friday.

The five beaches are North Avenue, Osterman, Montrose, Foster and Rainbow.

"With today's busy lifestyle, it's important that we stay connected even when we're spending a day at the beach," Chicago Park District General Supt. Michael Kelly said in a statement.

Excluding installation of power lines, all costs for the pilot program will be covered by Everywhere Wireless, a Chicago-based firm, according to a news release.

The company and the Chicago Park District will consider expanding the program depending on the success of the program.
