COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — After biting a bar patron and spitting on cops, a "very combative" man took his anger out on a thermometer when he bit off the tip of the medical instrument while being treated at a hospital, according to court records.

Police arrived at Pitchfork Food and Saloon, 2922 W. Irving Park Road, shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday and found a group of people restraining Neil Surati, 24, records state.

Surati and at least one other man had gotten into a fight, and police observed Surati's teeth marks on the "left chest area" of a man, according to court records.

The man with the bite marks refused to pursue charges. But Surati faces one count each of aggravated battery for spitting on three officers as they were placing him under arrest.

According to court records, Surati was "very combative," banging his head on the pavement and repeatedly yelling expletives.

He was later taken by ambulance to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he continued to use "abusive and vulgar language," according to court records. He also broke a thermometer by biting off the tip of it while a nurse tried to check his vital signs.

For that, Surati faces a charge of criminal damage to property.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr. on Monday set bail at $100,000 for Surati.
