Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Dan Ryan Expressway

 A motorcylist was killed in an accident that snarled traffic on the Dan Ryan Expy. early Monday morning. The man, who was hospitalized with head injuries before he died. The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Martice Smith, 36, of the 6500 block of South Greenwood Ave.

CHICAGO — A motorcycle crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway left a Woodlawn man dead Monday morning.

The motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed on the Dan Ryan when traffic ahead of him slowed to a stop, and he crashed into a Dodge Caliber near 35th Street about 6:15 a.m., Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Elizabeth Nanai said.

The motorcyclist was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with head trauma and pronounced dead, according to police. 

The man was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Martice Smith, 36, of the 6500 block of South Greenwood Ave. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital at 6:49 a.m.

The inbound express lanes were closed after the accident but reopened about 8:30 a.m.
