GARFIELD RIDGE — A West Pullman man faces felony charges of sexually abusing an on-duty CTA bus driver Wednesday on the city's Southwest Side.

Police said Gabriel Hayes, of the 300 block of E. 120th Place, is being charged with one count of aggravated battery to a transit employee and one count of criminal sexual abuse by force.

Hayes, 33, approached the driver and exposed himself as she stood outside her bus at West Archer Avenue and South Neva Avenue about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

The driver "rebuffed" Hayes, and he walked away, but when the driver got on the bus minutes later, Hayes also boarded the bus. He made sexual contact with the driver, prompting her to stop the bus and call the police, Estrada said.

Hayes was arrested a short distance away, in the 7100 block of West Archer Avenue.

Hayes is expected to appear in court Thursday afternoon.
