UPTOWN — A Chicago Public Schools teacher is considering legal action and pushing back against a local conservative gay blogger who accused him of being a racist stripper with a porno past.
Kevin DuJan, the same blogger who speculated that President Barack Obama was a gay man with a cocaine habit, posted a story on his HillBuzz blog on May 28 titled, "Public School Shocker: Gay Porn Actor and Male Stripper Employed As Teacher at Joseph Stockton Elementary School in Chicago!"
The post accused 34-year-old Bradley Balof, a middle school teacher at Stockton with a "superior" rating from CPS, of starring in pornographic films and making racist jokes about his black students.
CPS said it was investigating the teacher — who denied DuJan's accusations and was contemplating legal action.
"The allegations made about me in Kevin DuJan's blog, are false," Balof told DNAinfo Chicago Monday. "I am presently seeking legal options against Mr. DuJan."
The Daily Dot's Nico Lang first reported the HillBuzz accusations and subsequent CPS investigation Monday, and called DuJan's pornography claims "shaky at best."
Balof is an openly gay man who moonlights as a standup comic and MC at Boystown's Sidetrack bar and has acted in independent films. He also has acting credits in "Bowser Makes a Movie," and "Into It," two indie movies that have gay characters and sexual content but are not considered to be porn productions.
Ties to pornography have led to other teacher firings nationwide. Balof, who is white, is also being accused of mocking black students in his comedy acts at Sidetrack.
Balof's jokes "depict his black students as ignorant 'Shaniquas', 'Loquishas' and other ebonics-inspired characters who are in his opinion unable to learn, difficult to teach, and almost entirely coming from broken homes with missing fathers and stereotypical black 'welfare queen' mothers," DuJan wrote.
Balof denied all of DuJan's allegations, but said he could not comment further due to his legal plans.
Stockton school is merging with Mary E. Courtenay Elementary School in what CPS calls a "reverse consolidation," where Courtenay's building will close, its students will transfer to the Stockton building, and Courtenay staff will run the merged school, which would be renamed Courtenay.
Balof, who is a tenured teacher at Stockton and does not yet know if he will get laid off because of the merger, said he was sad to have something like this happen at the end of the school year and further dampen what is already a sad time in the Stockton community.
After school Monday, students said they were fond of Balof and that he was a cool guy. Stockton Principal Jill Besenjak said she was unable to comment about the allegations due to the ongoing investigation.
"These allegations were recently brought to our attention, an investigation was begun immediately, and that investigation is ongoing," CPS stated.
DuJan, who was not immediately available for comment, has also penned posts accusing the president of being gay, claiming the president gets cozy with cocaine and accusing Democrats of using the liberal gay community "to attack, malign and persecute Christians by depicting Christians as adversaries of the gay community."
DuJan has coined a name for leaders in the gay community: "The Gaystapo."
DuJan is the boyfriend of Joseph Parker, a former Sidetrack doorman and plaintiff in a lawsuit against the bar accusing the establishment of violating his civil rights via religious and sexual harassment.
Sidetrack's legal team has said that the claims are bogus and that DuJan is behind the lawsuit. DuJan, who has a track record of criticizing Sidetrack and the Boystown gay community, has said the bar denies him entry because he is a conservative Christian.
"As a teacher, I would suggest people do their homework on Kevin DuJan," Balof said.
