CHICAGO — A man from south suburban Burnham died in South Shore Sunday night after he was injured while hanging out of a car window, police said.

Orlando Mayo Jr., 30, was a passenger in a car heading eastbound in the 2000 block of East 79th Street about 7:20 p.m., authorities said.

He was apparently hanging out of the passenger-side window when his body struck a parked car and he was thrown from the vehicle, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

Mayo, who lived in the 2700 block of East 142nd Street, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:54 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

As of Monday morning, police weren't sure why Mayo was hanging out of the car, Greer said.
