Man Offers Candy to Children, Attempts to Lure Them, Cops Say

CHICAGO — Police are warning Woodlawn residents of a man who has attempted to lure children to his van on four occasions in recent months.

Children walking to on the street told police they were approached by a man either on foot or in a red Pontiac Montana van with the center caps missing from its wheels. The man offers candy, blows kisses and attempts to get the children to come with him.

He is described as black, 20 to 30 years old, with brown eyes, a dark complexion and black hair worn in dreadlocks with gold tips.

Two incidents occurred in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue on: April 1 at about 7:30 p.m. and on May 24 at about 5 p.m. On June 4 at about 6:30 p.m., the man approached children in the 6300 block of Cottage Grove.  Another incident occurred in the 6200 block of South Drexel Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. on June 6.

Police issued a similar warning of different suspects in Austin on Friday.
