CHICAGO — A human leg was found along the lakefront in Kenwood Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Police were called to the 4700 block of South Lake Shore Drive about 2:42 p.m. for what appeared to be a human leg, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

The leg, which was severed at the hip, was found among rocks at the shore, said a spokesman from the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

No other body parts were found at the scene, the spokesman said.

The case is being pursued as a death investigation, Zala said.
