CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man died after he was electrocuted Thursday morning on the North Side, police said.

The teen "came in contact" with a transformer on a pole in the 1800 block of West Montrose Avenue sometime before 2:45 a.m., said Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman. Police found him unconscious and apparently alone in the North Center area, Sullivan said.

The man may have been on the roof tagging before he was hurt, and graffiti was found on the transformer, Sullivan said. The teen had a history of graffiti-related arrests, Sullivan said.

He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and pronounced dead at 3:56 a.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The teen's family has not been notified, and the medical examiner's office wasn't releasing his identity Thursday morning. An autopsy has not yet been completed.
