LINCOLN SQUARE — Last week the Chicago Board of Education voted to close 50 schools; this week students and parents are getting a look at their new homes.
McPherson Elementary, 4728 N. Wolcott Ave., is throwing open its doors to members of the former Trumbull Elementary community, conducting a number of tours and hosting registration for new students.
Tours are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., May 29, June 4 and June 6. RSVP to Marianne Turk via email at mturk@cps.edu or call 773-534-2625, ext. 42629.
For those who have already decided to enroll their child at McPherson, registration is being held at the school 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily through May 31. Enter via Door 1. For more information, call 773-534-2625.
Students at Ravenswood's Courtenay Language Arts Center, which is being relocated to Uptown's Stockton Elementary, will have the opportunity to check out their new building during tours of Stockton scheduled for 4 p.m., May 29-30.
RSVP to Courtenay.web@gmail.com with the number of individuals attending and the grade of the student potentially enrolling.
Ravenswood Elementary, 4332 N. Paulina St., is also holding early registration for new students. The school's attendance boundaries overlap the location of Courtenay's former home at 1726 W. Berteau Ave.
Though students can register as late as the first day of the new academic school year, Ravenswood is encouraging early registration in order to plan appropriately for staffing and other needs. Registration is open at the school 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 3-7. A checklist of what parents will need to provide during registration can be found here.
