CHICAGO — Police said that a boy fabricated a story about being hit by a car Thursday morning.

Police initially said a car hit the 8-year-old student at Austin O. Sexton Elementary School near the school in the 6000 block of South Langely Avenue about 8 a.m. Police had said that the car sped away from the scene.

Though the Fire Department initially said a child was hospitalized in serious condition, they later said the boy was not seriously injured.

The report was "unfounded," and it is believed the boy made the story up, said John Mirabelli, a police spokesman.
