CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man is dead after being shot while walking on the sidewalk near the 47th Street Green Line Station in Bronzeville, authorities said.

The man was identified as Kevin Ambrose, of the 4800 block of South Prairie Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The incident occurred about 11:05 p.m. Tuesday in the 4700 block of South Prairie Avenue when shots were fired from a light-colored sedan, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

After he was shot in his back, Ambrose ran through a nearby vacant lot before collapsing in an alley. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m., the morgue said.

Earlier Tuesday, a 21-year-old man was shot in his chest in Calumet Heights.

He was standing with a group of other men on the corner of 89th Street and Phillips Avenue when shots were fired from a light-colored SUV, Alfaro said.

The man was initially taken to Trinity Hospital before being transferred to Stroger.

In Brighton Park, a 55-year-old man was shot in his left thigh while he was walking in the 2700 block of West 44th Street at about 9:50 p.m., Alfaro said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
