HYDE PARK — The University of Chicago opened its new child care facility on Wednesday, and a few slots are still open for preschoolers.
The new facility at 5610 S. Drexel Ave. accommodates 124 infants through preschool-age children, with priority given to children of university faculty and staff.
The center had a soft opening on April 1, and by the official announcement of the opening Wednesday, nearly all classes were full.
“As of this morning, there are spaces available for preschoolers and a waiting list for younger kids,” said Dianna Douglas, a spokeswoman for the university.
The child care center is the fourth location in Chicago for Watertown, Mass.-based Bright Horizons.
Bright Horizons is scheduled to open a second day care facility for the University of Chicago in the fall. The facility will accommodate an additional 124 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.
