RAVENSWOOD — Band of Bohemia is bidding to become the newest brewpub in the Lincoln Square-Ravenswood vicinity, joining the likes of Metropolitan, Half Acre, Begyle and Spiteful.
Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) has received a zoning change application from Band of Bohemia owners Craig Sindelar and Michael Carroll. The pair have set their sights on a property at 4700-12 N. Ravenswood Ave., which they plan to convert into a 6,000-square-foot restaurant/brewery/retail space.
According to a letter sent by Sindelar and Carroll to the 47th Ward's Zoning Advisory Committee, their concept "brings the world of upscale dining and allows it to mingle with beer."
The proposed restaurant would seat 120 and provide 30 jobs, according to the zoning request. The business partners are aiming for a spring 2014 opening and are asking for $125,000 from the Small Business Improvement Fund. The project has a $700,000 construction budget.
Architectural renderings show a proposed sleek, contemporary interior design heavy on brick and wood.
If approved, the zoning change would shift the property from a manufacturing (M-1) designation to commercial (C1-2), allowing Band of Bohemia to make use of the necessary 6,000 square feet.
Sindelar, the former head sommelier at Alinea restaurant, said he was unable to comment on the project's status as of Tuesday morning.
