IRVING PARK — Last week's announcement that Chicago Public Schools would shutter 54 schools also delivered news of a handful of cases where two schools will now share the same building.

Among those pairings: the expansion of Disney II Magnet and Thurgood Marshall Middle School.

While Disney II finally has a path to move forward with its addition of grades 7 through 12, some community members have expressed concerns about the choice of Marshall as a location, including the impact on the neighborhood elementary school, Murphy.

The Disney II and Marshall communities will have an opportunity to air their issues at public meetings from 5-7 p.m. April 10 and 15 at Schurz High School, 3601 N. Milwaukee Ave.; and 9-11 a.m. April 20 at the CPS Central Office, 125 S. Clark St.

Those who wish to comment are required to sign up to speak. The sign-up window runs from an hour before the meeting's start time to the hour after the meeting begins.

Individuals will have two minutes to speak unless granted an extension. The hearing will conclude at the stated end time or after the comments of the last person who has signed up to speak, whichever comes first.
