KENWOOD — Ross Dress for Less will open a new location at 1300 E. 47th St. later this year.

Ald. Will Burns' (4th) office will announce on Wednesday the discount clothing store’s move to the shopping center at the intersection of the Hyde Park and Kenwood neighborhoods.

The alderman’s office was unable to provide details on when Ross would move into the location, but confirmed the store would move in later this year.

The location has been vacant since 2012 when Michael’s Fresh Market closed its doors and laid off nearly 100 employees as it filed for bankruptcy.

The grocery store’s closure forced Burns to relaunch a search for a tenant for the shopping center’s largest retail space. The space was originally built for the Hyde Park Co-Op, which closed in 2005 citing financial difficulty.

Once finalized, the move by Ross will be the second clothing store chain to move into the neighborhood after Akira opened at 1539 E. 53rd St. last year.
