CHICAGO — Slain baby Jonylah Watkins was fatally shot just once but suffered from several gunshot wounds, a police source said.

The bullet caused multiple entry and exit wounds, though the source couldn't confirm how many.

Authorities initially said the baby was shot multiple times. A family spokesman had said she was shot five times — in the lung, liver, leg, shoulder, and bowel or intestine.

Jonylah was killed in a Monday afternoon shooting when she was with her father in a minivan in the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue in Woodlawn. Police have said Jonathan Watkins was changing his daughter's diaper on the front passenger seat of the car when they were shot.

Jonathan Watkins, father of six-month-old Jonylah who was fatally shot by a gunman targeting her father, was released from the hospital Thursday, according to a family spokesman.

The Rev. Corey Brooks, who serves as the family spokesman, sent a Twitter update at 9:52 p.m. Thursday saying, "The father of Jonylah was just released from the Hospital and We r taking him to the police station to 'Fully' cooperate with the police."

About 2-1/2 hours later, he sent the following message: "Jonathan has cooperated with the police and now he is going 2 talk 2 the State Attorney 2 make sure the killer is caught as soon as possible"

The Sun-Times reported Thursday that Jonathan Watkins is not cooperating with police. A source told the newspaper that Jonylah may have been sitting on her father's lap at the time of the shooting.

Both Jonylah and her father were shot. Jonylah was declared dead the following morning at Comer Children's Hospital.

Jonathan Watkins was sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he remained until Thursday night.
