Hadiya Pendleton's Accused Killers Indicted

COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — The two men accused in the murder of King College Prep student Hadiya Pendleton have been indicted for the crime.

Michael Ward and Kenneth Williams stood quietly before a Cook County judge Friday as the grand jury's indictment was read.

Police have said Ward admitted to shooting 15-year-old Hadiya at a South Side playground on Jan. 29. Williams was the getaway driver, authorities said.

Ward was seeking revenge on a rival gang by shooting into a crowd of people in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park, authorities said. Though prosecutors said Ward had determined "everyone had to go," police said Hadiya and the group of students with her were innocent victims.

Attorneys for Ward, 18, and Williams, 20, said the two will plead not guilty at their arraignment on March 28.
