CHICAGO — A suspected gunman is in custody after he allegedly fired shots that caused police to pursue and subsequently shoot at him Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Police saw the suspect firing shots around 1 p.m. on the 3400 block of South Indiana Avenue — less than two blocks from Chicago Police Department Headquarters.

When police attempted to arrest the man, he ran.

During the chase, officers fired shots at the suspect but didn’t hit him, according to police.

The man was taken into custody and charges are pending, police said.
