UPTOWN — Buddha is emerging all over Uptown.

Sculptures depicting a rising Buddha have sprouted across the community as part of a public art project, Ten Thousand Ripples, that nine other Chicago communities are also participating in.

The Bridgeview Bank Uptown building at 1139 W. Lawrence Ave., Alternatives Inc., at 4730 N. Sheridan Rd., MDT Architects at 4619 N. Broadway and Hao Lan Salon at 1059 W. Argyle St., are some of the locations the statues can be found.

The artist behind the project, Indira Johnson, wrote on the project's website that the sculptures are aimed at encouraging people "to think about how they can find peace in their own lives and their communities."
