CHICAGO— When Jean-Claude Brizard leaves his post as Chicago Public Schools CEO, he'll walk away with a year's salary, one year of health insurance covering him and his family along with recommendation letter singing his praises, the Tribune reported Wednesday.

Brizard, who formally resigned on Oct. 10, officially leaves the position on Jan. 1 and will receive one year of his $250,000 salary just in time for the new year, according to the paper.

The reportedly unsigned recommendation letter attached to his severance agreement said Brizard "worked to improve the communications challenges with the Mayor's Office and the Board of Education in what is sometimes an awkward triumvirate," the Tribune reported, and said Brizard's agenda has been called "a masterpiece" by some.

Barbara Byrd-Bennet, a former teacher and principal, was named as Brizard's replacement on Oct. 12, according to the mayor's office.
