Soup and Bread is a popular weekly winter event at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia Ave., where soup makers and soup lovers come together for a good cause.

This year, to shake things up, each week will have a theme for intrepid soup cooks, i.e. Feb. 6's "Down Under" theme implies possible Aussie-influenced soups and Feb. 13's "Love, Lust and Hate" begs a wide range of soupy interpretations. Pay-what-you-can donations benefit a range of Chicago-area food pantries and hunger relief agencies.
