LINCOLN SQUARE — Don't mess with a mama bear and her cubs.

That's the message Lincoln Square moms have sent loud and clear following a string of assaults against women walking in the neighborhood with young children in strollers.

A second "Walk Strong" event has been planned for Thursday evening, following on the heels of a recent morning march. The 6:15 p.m. start time was chosen to accommodate those who couldn't participate in the daytime event.

The group will gather at the Welles Park gazebo, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave. The walk's route will pass by locations where incidents of assault have been reported.

If participants express interest, the walks could take place on a regular basis, according to organizers.

In response to the assaults and a number of armed robberies that have occurred in recent weeks, Ald. Pat O'Connor and Lincoln Police District Cmdr. Sean Loughran have scheduled a community-wide CAPS meeting for 7 p.m., Oct. 26, at Amundsen High School, 5110 N. Damen Ave.
