CHICAGO — A fake ride-sharing driver faces 12 felony counts after picking up passengers in bars and stealing their banking information, police said.

Gabriel Jackson, 49, of Lakeview has been charged with continuing financial crime enterprises after getting arrested Wednesday night in Fuller Park, police said.

Jackson would walk into bars and present himself as a ride-sharing driver, police said. After giving a victim a ride, Jackson would then swipe their debit cards through an app on his phone, have them punch in their pin numbers — and then hand them back a different debit, police said. Jackson would then use the cards and pin numbers to withdraw cash from nearby ATMs.

Jackson has been tied to scams in the Central, Near North, Shakespeare and Town Hall police districts, which are home to some of city's liveliest bar scenes.

Police said Jackson was charged Thursday in Cook County Circuit Court after a "long-term" investigation.
