EDGEWATER — No one was injured when a building collapsed next to the Thorndale Red Line station Tuesday morning, police said.

Police, Peoples Gas workers and officials from the city buildings department swarmed the 1100 block of West Thorndale Avenue, blocking traffic and pedestrians from the area.

Police were notified of the collapse at 8:15 a.m., according to Officer Christine Calace, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Buildings department officials were preparing on Tuesday to demolish the remains of the structure, Calace said.
