11th Ward Flag Day Ceremony To Celebrate Old Glory Wednesday

CHICAGO — Celebrate Flag Day as the South Loop Chamber of Commerce invites residents of the 11th Ward to honor the American flag.

The annual ceremony is set to take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at 4500 S. Halsted St. It is the largest flag ceremony honoring the American flag in the country, organizers said.

The event will feature veterans and their families, Cook County Commissioner John P. Daley, Ald. Patrick D. Thompson (11th), students in JROTC programs and representatives of the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Firefighters Local Union 2.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their "tattered and worn" American, City of Chicago, POW and MIA flag for proper disposal during the ceremony.
