Armed Robbers Prowling Alleys Looking For Open Garage Doors, Police Say

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A group of armed robbers prowling alleys in Roseland and Washington Heights prompted a community alert from the Chicago Police Department.

The group of three men drive through alleys in a dark-colored pickup truck, looking for open overhead garage doors, according to police in the Morgan Park District.

Two of the men then get out of the truck armed with guns, leaving the driver behind the wheel while they rob people in the garage, police said.

The robberies occurred:

• At 5 a.m. May 21 in the 9900 block of South Peoria Avenue in Washington Heights

• At 9 a.m. Friday in the 8800 block of South Hermitage Avenue in Washington Heights

• At 10 a.m. Friday in the 10700 block of South Union Avenue in Roseland

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call detectives at 312-747-8273.
