WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — Two senior citizens were carjacked this week by an armed man along a busy stretch in Washington Heights, according to the Chicago Police Department.

The robber targeted elderly women, first stealing their purses and then fleeing in their cars. The first such carjacking occurred at 11 a.m. Sunday in the 9200 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

The second carjacking occurred at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 9300 block of South Ashland Avenue. In one of the incidents, the robber had a handgun, police said.
