WICKER PARK — Improving the bustling "six corners" Milwaukee, North and Damen avenues hub — ranked among the city's most dangerous intersections for pedestrians — will be the focus of a public meeting on Tuesday.

Hosted by the Chicago Department of Transportation in collaboration with aldermen Joe Moreno (1st), Brian Hopkins (2nd), Scott Waguespack (32nd) and commissioners from the volunteer-led Wicker Park Bucktown Taxpayer No. 33 District, the gathering is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the A.N. Pritzker School auditorium, 2009 W. Schiller St.

Organizers say residents interested in learning about proposed "near-term improvements for people walking, biking, riding transit, and driving" at the intersection should attend.

Michael Claffey, a CDOT spokesman, said that the meeting will be a chance to give feedback on intersection improvements suggested in the recently released Wicker Park Bucktown Master Plan, a report commissioned by the Wicker Park Bucktown Taxpayer No. 33 District.

"Re-envisioning the Milwaukee/North/Damen intersection to be balanced and safer for all users" was one of many recommendations in the plan, which has a goal to make community and public space "more livable and attractive to all," Wicker Park Bucktown Taxpayer No. 33 District Commission chairman Brent Norsman previously said.

In addition to the Milwaukee, North and Damen avenues intersection, other "low-cost improvements" on Milwaukee Avenue between Armitage Avenue and Division Street will also be presented for feedback on Tuesday, officials said.
