CHICAGO — A man put a bag over a girl's head and tried to kidnap her while she played outside Sunday in Austin, police said.

At 3:35 p.m., the girl was playing on the sidewalk near Jackson Boulevard and Lockwood Avenue when she fell off her bike and a man walked up to her and put a bag over her head, police said.

The girl got scared and kicked the man, police said. The man ran away, and the girl ran home. The girl told her mother what had happened and the mother called 911.

The girl was visiting relatives, police said, and she was not familiar with the area.

The man was described as 40 years old, black, 5-foot-5 and bald, police said. He had a medium build and had a tattoo of a heart on his neck. He wore a brown, long-sleeve shirt, black pants and blue, low-top gym shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call police at 312-744-8261.
