SOUTH SHORE — The Chicago Police Department called out a SWAT team Tuesday night after an armed man barricaded himself in a building in South Shore.

According to police, the man barricaded himself in a building on the 6900 block of South South Shore Drive at 8:10 p.m.

Police said the man is now in custody and a gun has been recovered.

Police gave few details Wednesday morning about the incident, saying more information would be available once the man was charged later Wednesday.

Unconfirmed reports from people listening to police scanners on Tuesday night on Twitter suggested that the man had a shotgun and had been seen on the fifth floor of Country Club Apartments, 6930 S. South Shore Drive.

The standoff blocked off car and bus traffic on South Shore Drive until 10:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported by police.
