JEFFERSON PARK — Charges are pending against an 18-year-old after another teenager was shot in his head in Jefferson Park on Tuesday, police said.

At 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, the victim, 17, was in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue when someone got out of a silver minivan and fired shots before driving away, police said.

Multiple witnesses to the shooting said it occurred in the parking lot behind TCF Bank, 4930 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The 17-year-old ran away but collapsed in the 5400 block of West Higgins Avenue and 911 was called, police said. He was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition.

Multiple cameras caught the shooting on video, Jefferson Park District Cmdr. Bill Looney said.

Detectives are still investigating the Feb. 9 killing of 17-year-old Alvin Stoll, who was shot in the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, police said. That was only the fifth shooting in Jefferson Park since 2010.

"It seems like this stuff is happening around here more and more," one neighbor said after Tuesday's shooting. "I try not to get too worried about it, but people are definitely more nervous."

Looney said he's seen an upward trend as well. So far eight guns have been confiscated by officers in his district this year, compared to just one by this time last year, he said.
