DOUGLAS — A new exhibit commemorating local cultural heroes who have built bridges, platforms, institutions and more, can be seen at the South Side Community Art Center through April 15.

Curated by artist Dorian Sylvain, “Celebrating Our Cultural Giants & Ancestors” is the first show of the art center's 2017 exhibition season. It "celebrates visionaries and illustrates the continuum of their influence" officials said. It can be seen at 3831 S. Michigan Ave.

The exhibit shows the "cultural ripple effect" the artists have had, which still has influence today. The journey is showcased through a blend of photographs, portraits, oil on linen, mixed media and more.

Admission is free and made possible through funding from the Alphawood Foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, The Richard Driehaus Foundation, Joyce Foundation, The Monarch Awards Foundation and Chicago Community Trust.
